ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) -The State Patrol says a medical condition suffered by a driver caused two accidents on Interstate 94 at the St. Augusta exit Monday, causing traffic back-ups in both the east and westbound lanes and leaving one person in critical condition.

It happened just before 4 p.m. when a driver, 49-year-old John Fischer of St. Cloud went through a freeway fence off of Cooper Avenue and continued driving the wrong way on the Interstate--going eastbound in the westbound lanes.

One vehicle rolled a trailer it was pulling to avoid Fischer as he headed the wrong way against traffic, and then another vehicle collided with the wrong-way driver head-on. The two occupants of that car, 50-year-old Joseph Mayo of Cavalier, ND and 52-year-old Linda Mayo of West Fargo, ND.

Fisher and Joseph Mayo suffered non-life threatening injuries while Linda Mayo is hospitalizied and in critical condition.
