WAITE PARK, Minn. (KNSI) - What began as a shoplifting complaint ultimately led to the tasing of a wanted Sauk Rapids man.
Members of the Waite Park Police Department were called to 2630 Division Street, the address of Mills Fleet Farm, on Tuesday just before 3 p.m.
According to a loss prevention officer, 25 year-old Shawn Lees of Sauk Rapids was spotted fleeing the store with unspecificed merchandise.
A Stearns County deputy was alerted to the incident, and soon spotted Lees near the Sauk River.
While attempting to apprehend him, an arriving Waite Park Officer witnessed Lees fighting with the deputy, and tased him.
The deputy and the officer then tried to remove Lees from the river bank, but they say he began lashing out at the Waite Park officer and was tased again.
Lees was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for medical treatment.
Lees had a warrant out of Waite Park for domestic assault. He's now facing 2 counts of 4th Degree Assault.
