ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - The former general manager of a machine shop in St. Cloud is accused of bilking his employer out of tens of thousands of dollars.
Mark Allen Held of Sartell is facing one count of theft by swindle after allegedly racking up more than $80,000 in charges on a company credit card over several years.
The criminal complaint shows the 57-year-old Held was the G.M. for Ickler Company, 2832 1st Street South, in St. Cloud and allegedly used a company credit card to make personal purchases from December, 3rd 2008, to November 6th 2015, totaling $81,455.18.
Some of the charges included airline tickets to Florida for a family trip in April of 2015, music on I-tunes, dry cleaning, restaurants and Eddie Bauer gear.
The only personal expense Held was allowed was gas for his personal vehicle once a month.
The complaint alleges that in November 19th, 2015 Held was confronted about the charges and admitted to charging a few things but said he intended to pay it back.
Held was released from the company after the personal charges came to light.
Court records allege Held admitted to using the card for personal expenses including the airline tickets, but didn’t' think the owner would be upset.
Police were contacted about the theft on October 27th, 2016.
Investigators interviewed Held on December 9th, 2016 and, according to the criminal complaint, he told police he was never given any specific guidelines for using the company card and he didn't think there would be a problem with using the card for personal use.
The owner admitted that he never specifically told Held he couldn’t use the card for personal expenses because he didn't think that needed to be said.
The owner said he was told by other employees that the theft was occurring but didn't think his general manager and a man he thought of as a friend would do that.
A summons has been issued for Held to appear in Stearns County District Court on June 26th.
