LONG PRAIRIE, Minn. (KNSI) An Alexandria man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for fatally beating a woman at her rural Osakis home last year.
Fifty four year-old Jeffery Brooks was burglarizing the home of 51 year-old Diane Fortenberry last May when Fortenberry walked in on Brooks.
Brooks was arrested a week after the killing. DNA evidence linked him to the crime.
Brooks has a criminal history that dates back 20 years to a burglary in St. Paul. He also has convictions for drug possession in St. Paul, theft in Fergus Falls and burglary in Cold Spring.
Brooks will be eligible for supervised release after serving 23 years in prison.
