DULUTH, Minn. (AP) — A man convicted of stabbing another man to death in a downtown Duluth apartment has been sentenced to 40 years in prison.
Forty-three-year-old Joshua Lee Littlewolf received the maximum sentence under state sentencing guidelines Friday. He will need to serve at least two-thirds of the sentence.
Littlewolf represented himself at his trial. A jury convicted him in September of second-degree murder for the April 2012 killing of 28-year-old Joshua Olson.
The Duluth News Tribune reports Littlewolf maintained his innocence at sentencing. He claimed that the Native Mob, a Native American gang, was behind Olson's killing.
Olson's father, Darrell Olson, asked for the maximum sentence for Littlewolf, calling him "the devil."
The prosecutor had argued Littlewolf decided to "condemn and butcher" Joshua Olson for comments he made that angered Littlewolf.
