Man killed in snowmobile accident

MELROSE, Minn. (KNSI) A snowmobile accident near Melrose has taken the life of a Grey Eagle man.

Stearns County authorities say it happened just after eight p-m on New Years Eve.

First responders were called to 44322 Hartnette Lake Road in Melrose Township. That's where the victim--who was alone on the snowmobile--ran into a tree.

He was having difficulty breathing, and CPR was performed on the scene. He was taken to the Melrose Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

His name has not been released yet.

Sheriff John Sanner says the victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, and he says alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor.
