ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says a man drowned in the Sauk River in St. Cloud Sunday.

The St. Cloud Police Department received a 911 call just before 1 pm that a man was found in the river near Rivercrest Drive.

Officers from the St. Cloud Police Department, St. Cloud Fire Department and Gold Cross Ambulance responded.

All efforts to resuscitate the victim were unsuccessful and he was dead at the scene.

Officers learned the victim had been with friends in a nearby apartment complex and left them to walk into the river. No one witnessed the drowning, but he had been seen swimming and diving into shallow water.

The victim is a 56 year-old St. Cloud man. His name is being withheld pending notification of family members.
