HAWLEY, Minn. (AP) Authorities are working to identify a person found dead in a single-engine plane that crashed near the western Minnesota town of Hawley.
Clay County Sheriff Bill Bergquist says they're trying to determine if it's a plane that went missing on a flight from Superior, Wis., to Moorhead.
The sheriff says a search plane spotted the downed plane about 4:15 p.m. Friday, about four miles south of Hawley. Authorities found the body inside the wreckage shortly before 5:30 p.m.
Bergquist says the plane was reported missing around 12:30 p.m. He says the pilot, whose name has not been released, was traveling from Superior to visit family in Moorhead. His family last heard from him when he was over Park Rapids, about 150 miles west of Superior.
