RICHFIELD, MN (AP) - Police have a suspect in custody in a fatal shooting outside a Richfield restaurant 14 years ago.
Prosecutors have charged 44-year-old Michael Scott with two counts of second-degree murder in the 1998 killing of 27-year-old Gilbert Toomer.
Toomer was one of two men who were ambushed and shot in the parking lot while leaving what was then a Chi-Chi's restaurant. The other victim was taken to a hospital, but Toomer died of multiple gunshot wounds.
KMSP-TV (http://bit.ly/MbSdHl) reports at the time of the shooting, investigators said they believed Toomer was targeted. Now, investigators say Scott gunned down Toomer because one of the friends Toomer was with had shot him months before as part of a gang war.
Scott is scheduled to make his first court appearance on Friday.
