FOLEY, Minn. (KNSI) - A man is in jail after a traffic stop revealed he was under the influence and had drugs in his car.
Benton County Sheriff's department stopped 18 year-old Benjamin Benboom of Foley for speeding on Tuesday night, just before midnight. The stop occured on Highway 23, three miles west of Foley.
During the stop, the deputy noted Benboom seemed nervous and gave inconsistent answers to their questions. The deputy also says Benboom was displaying signs that he could be under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
Further investigation revealed Benboom's two juvenile passengers were in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia.
Deputies brought in a K9 unit to search the vehicle. The dog alerted them to several spots in the the vehicle, including a small pouch found concealed behind the vehicle's plastic trim. Deputies believe the pouch contained methamphetamine.
The juveniles were cited for marijuana possession and released to their parents.
Benboom was arrested for 5th degree controlled substance crime and DWI and booked into the Benton County Jail. He's there awaiting his first court appearance.
