LONG PRAIRIE, Minn. (KNSI) The Long Prairie Police Department has announced that the city has added a new prescription drug drop-off box.
It's the first of its kind in Todd County, and is located at Long Prairie City Hall.
Police Chief Kevin Langer says prescription drugs are the third most commonly abused drug behind alcohol and marijuana.
The idea for the drop off box came after the city and county collected hundreds of pounds of unused prescription drugs during the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Residents can bring their unused prescription drugs to the front lobby of Long Prairie City Hall for drop off Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The police department cannot accept needles or liquids, but all other forms of prescription medications will be accepted.
