COLD SPRING, Minn. (KNSI) - Plans are underway in the Minnesota state legislature to rename part of Highway 23 for fallen Cold Spring officer Tom Decker.
State Representative Jeff Howe of Rockville and Paynesville State Senator Michelle Fischbach co-authored the bill.
Howe says the two began discussing it with the city of Cold Spring back in December, and since then, the plan has received strong backing from many members of the state legislature.
"The bill has. of course, received unanimous support and numerous co-signers since it was introduced," Howe says. "And really, it's just an honor to be able to carry it."
The bill will now move through committee hearings before making it on to the House floor for a vote. If approved, it will dedicate the stretch of Highway 23 from Cold Spring to Richmond as the "Officer Tom Decker Memorial Highway," the stretch Howe says Officer Decker would have been patroling.
Officer Decker's murder on November 29th remains yet unsolved.
