MINNEAPOLIS (KNSI) - A lighting strike may be to blame for a fire that destroyed a south Minneapolis church and injured five fire fighters Sunday night.

The fire at the Walker United Methodist Church was called in just before 8:30. The building was totally engulfed in flames by the time firefighters got there, and they could do little to try and save the structure. Four of the five firefighters injured suffered what are being described as thermal injuries.

The church has a long storied history. The building dated back to 1910, where it was dedicated on Easter Sunday that year. The church has about 150 members.
