COLD SPRING, MN (KNSI) - The Cold Spring City Council met Wednesday night to hear a report on a study conducted to look into options for a new library.

The the study, commissioned in March, focused mainly on the cost of remodeling the former Rocori Middle School into a library, versus building an entirely new facility.

City Administrator Paul Hetland says the study found remodeling the middle school would cost about $980,000, a figure that does not include the cost to lease or purchase the building.

New construction would cost about one-and-a-half million dollars, not including the purchase of property. Cold Spring Mayor Doug Schmitz says proposed property in the Granite Landing site is available for about $260,000.

The next step is meeting with the school district and the group "Friends of the Library" to decide which direction to go.
