MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — An 8-year-old boy from northern Minnesota is gradually improving after a sailboat accident that left his two younger brothers dead earlier this month.
Isaiah Risland remained Sunday at Children's Hospital in Minneapolis. The Bemidji Pioneer reports his aunt wrote on the boy's CaringBridge website that Isaiah is "still gaining consciousness occasionally and responding to voice."
The boys and their father, Dan Risland of Leonard, were boating April 6th when their boat capsized. The father swam to shore to get help after being unable to get the boys to land.
The boys were wearing life jackets, but spent about an hour in 40-degree water until first responders could reach them. Two-year-old Jacob and 6-year-old Zech died of hypothermia. Isaiah was airlifted to the Twin Cities in critical condition.
