LITTLE FALLS, Minn.-- We now know a second candidate in the running to be the next Morrison County Sheriff. Current Morrison County Patrol Sergeant Shawn Larsen made the announcement on Monday that he will run for the position.
Following Michel Wetzel's announcement that he will not run for re-election, Larsen joins Lieutenant Tom Larsen in the running to replace Wetzel.
Larsen, a life-long resident of Morrison County, lives in Little Falls and began working for Morrison County in 1999. In the past 15 years, Larsen told the St. Cloud Times, he served as a jail correctional officer, dispatcher and bailiff. Larsen also served as a narcotics investigator on the Central Minnesota Drug and Gang Task Force before reaching his current position as deputy supervisor in 2006.
Larsen has served 12 years in the military with the Marine Corps Reserve and the Army National Guard. He is currently the Commander of the Criticical Incident response team. Larsen is also the lead instructor for use of firearms and use of force, and a firearms instructor at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
