ST. CLOUD, Minn. (AP) - Former state Rep. Phil Krinkie says he's joining the 2014 Republican race to succeed Michele Bachmann in Congress.

Krinkie said on Friday he's entering the race in Minnesota's 6th District. His first formal campaign event is Saturday at the Sherburne County Fair in Elk River.

Krinkie is now president of the Taxpayers League of Minnesota and serves on the Board of Trustees for the Minnesota State Colleges and Universities system.

He first ran for Congress in the 6th District in 2006, the year Bachmann was elected, but bowed out after Bachmann got the Republican endorsement.

Announced Republican candidates for the seat include former state Representative Tom Emmer, state Senator John Pederson and Anoka County Commissioner Rhonda Sivarajah.
