ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - No announcement was made last week, so that means it becomes more likely this week is when the announcement of the new St. Cloud police chief will be made.
"We're doing our due diligence. This is someone that will be hired in a permanent position for a long time, we're not going to rush it," Mayor Dave Kleis said. "We're going to make sure we have the right person in place to be the permanent police chief. I need to fully vet the candidates and pick the right person."
The process comes down to a decision from Kleis after a search committee narrowed down the original list of candidates to a final three. Kleis praised the work of the committee prior to his decision.
"It has made my decision very difficult and that is good. If the decision were easy the committee wouldn't have done its job," Kleis said. "They put forward three very qualified candidates and at this point it is my decision to make based on the qualifications in the interviews."
The finalists are St. Cloud interim police chief Richard Wilson, Moorhead Police Chief David Ebinger, and Carver County Chief Deputy Sheriff William Blair Anderson
