ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) Chainsaws got quite a workout in the St. Cloud area this weekend, as people cleared downed trees and branches from Friday's early morning thunderstorms.
St. Cloud Mayor Dave Kleis says there were long lines at the city compost site this weekend. Kleis says early estimates are that St. Cloud parks lost around 100 trees to the storm.
He says unlike wind storm damage from two years ago, this storm spread the damage out over a wider geographical area.
The storm knocked out power to more than a half-million Xcel Energy customers in Minnesota and western Wisconsin, but that number had been reduced to 60,000 by this morning.
