ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) This season's Salvation Army Red Kettle campaign in the St. Cloud area will top the $200,000 mark.
Shannon Smithers is the special events coordinator for the St. Cloud Salvation Army. She says volunteer bell ringers collectted $176,461.41 during the period between Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve.
The organization will receive another $25,000 in matching funds pledged by a group of anonymous donors. And she says kettle collections from Clearwater have not been reported yet, but are expected to be around $7,000. That should push the final number to the $208,000 range.
Smithers says they're pleased with that considering how cold it was, and the fact that the collection period was shortened this season due to how late Thanksgiving fell on the calendar.
The Salvation Army set a goal of raising about $220,000 during this year's kettle campaign.
