ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) - It's official - Jett is preparing to land in St. Cloud.
In their Thursday night meeting at St. Cloud City Hall, the District 742 school board unanimously gave the green light to new superintendent Willie Jett's contract agreement.
The contract is a three year deal starting Jett at $170,000 for the first year, with an increase to nearly $174,000 for the second year, and just above $178,000 for year three.
School board member Jerry Von Korff, who led the contract negotiation process, says the first-year number was well within the range the board was given by their search process consulting firm in order to attract the right fit for the job.
"The economics of the contract were driven by the numbers the recruiters gave us in order to attract quality candidates," Von Korff explains. "It really wasn't us inventing a number. They recommended a range, we lowered that number slightly, but were warned that if we lowered it any further, we wouldn't be getting the candidates we want."
Fellow board member Cindy Harner says they're confident they've found the right fit. In speaking with Jett recently, Harner says it's obvious he's looking forward to joining the community.
"I know he's really excited to be here," Harner says. "His kids have already picked out the schools - they knew where they wanted to go. He's just looking forward to being here."
Jett, who has served as an assistant superintendent for the St. Paul Public Schools, officially assumes the role on July 1st.
