LITTLE FALLS, Minn. (KNSI) - A 5 month-old was taken to the hospital after being bitten in the face by a skunk.
The Morrison County Sheriff's Office was called to St. Gabriel's Hospital in Little Falls on Tuesday after reports that a child had been bitten by a dog.
Upon arrival, deputies determined the baby had, in fact, been bitten by a skunk.
They proceeded to stop by the residence on 153rd Street near Little Falls where the bite occured.
Deputies learned the child had been outside with other children, strapped into a child seat, when the skunk arrived.
It reportedly bit the child's face several times before the owner of the home was able to grab a gun and shoot the animal.
The child was treated for the bite wounds and will also be tested for rabies exposure in the next few days.
The skunk's body was transported to a local veterinary clinic to be tested for the disease. Results are expected to be released in the next couple of days.
Morrison County Sheriff Michel Wetzel stresses that, any time you are approached by a wild animal, particularly during daytime hours, use extreme caution, keep your distance, and report the incident to law enforcement.
