SAUK RAPIDS, Minn. (KNSI) - Brad Gunderson is stepping into his new role as mayor of Sauk Rapids, and Kurt Hunstiger has been appointed to fill the next two years of Gunderson's vacant city council seat.
Gunderson tells KNSI News that Hunstiger will receive the appointment at Monday's city council meeting, where Gunderson himself will also be sworn in as mayor.
Fifteen people applied to take on the job, and the field was narrowed to 6 candidates last week.
Also to be inaugurated is Bill Bard as Sauk Rapids' new HRA member.
Gunderson also tells KNSI that the council plans to disband the parks advisory board in February and instead allow the city's planning commission take over those duties.
The new mayor and council members will be sworn into office on Monday night at 6:00 p.m. at the Sauk Rapids City Government Center.
