ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) The Minnesota House has passed its education finance bill that funds all-day kindergarten statewide.
The House education budget also provides more early-learning scholarships for 3- and 4-year-olds and adds $209 per student to the state's basic funding formula.
House Democrats also plan to pay off $850 million in IOUs to the schools that the state used to balance previous budget deficits.
Many Republicans joined Democrats in approving the budget, which passed Tuesday on an 83-50 vote.
Republicans say school districts should be able to choose how they spend money dedicated to all-day kindergarten. Districts that opt out of all-day kindergarten won't get the funding.
The Senate will take up its education budget later this week. Senate Democrats' plan also fully funds all-day kindergarten.
