AUSTIN, MN (AP) - Hormel Foods has confirmed that a worker at its plant in Austin has been diagnosed with tuberculosis.
The meat producer was notified of the contagious disease by the Mower County Public Health Department. KARE-TV (http://tinyurl.com/8p69hx4) says additional employees are undergoing testing.
Hormel says so far, no other cases have been identified. The company says there is no risk to food safety.
Hormel says it will continue to follow the direction of the health department.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says TB is spread through the air from one person to another.
