ST. JOSEPH, Minn. (KNSI) Mary Hinton has been announced as the 15th president in the history of the College of Saint Benedict.
Her appointment was announced this morning by presidential search committee co-chairwoman Lynn Newman.
Newman calls Hinton, "a very strong leader and advocate for the liberal arts and women's education. We think she'll be a great role model for students."
Hinton will assume the presidency at St. Ben's on June 15th. She comes to Minnesota from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburgh, New York, where she's the vice president for academic affairs. She earned her doctorate in religion and religious education from Fordham University.
Hinton's career includes philanthropic work in the corporate sector, as well as work as a private elementary school teacher.
Hinton, her husband and their three children plan to move to Minnesota in June and will make their home at the Renner House, the college's presidential home in St. Joseph.
