ELY, MN (AP) - Highway 1 near Ely is reopened, as officials continue to mop up hot spots around a forest fire.
Officials say the fire that was first detected Thursday is now 90 percent contained. Residents who evacuated were allowed to return to their homes Saturday, and Highway 1 was reopened on Sunday morning.
Officials say the fire affected 175 acres. They suspect it was caused by a downed power line.
The area received 0.9 inch of rain overnight.
Fire information officer Jean Bergerson tells Minnesota Public Radio News that despite the recent rain, there is still an elevated fire risk. She says continued rain is needed throughout the summer to make up for the dry situation.
