FOLEY, Minn. (KNSI) One day after Benton County Sheriff Brad Bennett announced he'll retire in January, his chief deputy announced he wants Bennett's job.

Troy Heck announced his candidacy for Benton County Sheriff Wednesday. Heck has been with the sheriff's office for 19 years, and was promoted to chief deputy in 2007.

Heck says he's eager to continue the public service he and Sheriff Bennett have provided to Benton County. Heck and his wife Bonnie live in Foley and have three children.
