ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) The first significant snow of the season could fall in central Minnesota Tuesday.

The National Weather Service has posted a Winter Storm Watch from Tuesday afternoon through Tuesday night .

The precipitation could begin as rain, butg temperatures will cool, and the rain will eventually transition to snow.

Forecasters say many areas across southern and eastern Minnesota could see 4 to 6 inches of snow with locally higher amounts of seven inches by early Wednesday morning.

These amounts are subject to change based on the track of the system and how temperatures fall on Tuesday.

St. Cloud is not in the Watch area, but it does include areas just to the south and east, including Sherburne County, Elk River and the Twin Cities area. Some other cities in the watch include Mora, Cambridge and Monticello.

This is likely to be a wet snow and any trees with leaves left on them may be stressed, leading to broken tree limbs and isolated power outages.
