Heater may have caused barn fire

CLEARWATER, Minn. (KNSI) A portable heater may have been the cause of a Sunday fire that destroyed a barn near Clearwater.

The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says Jeffrey Storms of Clearwater was trying to warm the barn to prepare it for rental.

The property is in Lynden Township near Warner Lake Park.

The fire caused at least $50,000 in damage.

There were no animals in the barn, and there were no injuries. High winds kept firefighters from having any chance of saving the structure.

Fire departments from Clearwater, Clear Lake and St. Augusta were on the scene for several hours.
