ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) A familar name in Minnesota football coaching circles will apply for the head coaching vacancy at St. John's.

Eden Prairie coach Mike Grant--the son of former Vikings coach Bud Grant--tells the St. Cloud Times he'll submit his application this week. Grant's Eden Prairie teams have won eight state championships.

The 55 year-old Grant has close ties to the Johnnies program. He played for longtime coach John Gagliardi, and was an assistant coach at St. John's in the 1980's.

Former St. John's quarterback and Carleton College coach Kurt Ramler says he'll also apply for the job.

Other applicants include current Johnnies assistant coach Gary Fasching and former Minnesota Gophers offensive line coach Gordy Shaw.

Longtime St. John's coach John Gagliardi retired earlier this month after a 64 year college coachcing career that produced a record 489 wins.
