ST. CLOUD, Minn. (KNSI) No shortage of candidates interested in replacing Steve Gottwalt in the Minnesota House of Representatives.

Iraq War veteran Scott MacHardy and former St. Cloud city councilman John Severson announced they'll run for the District 14A House seat. Both are Republicans.

MacHardy is a local GOP activist and U.S. Army Reserve member. Severson served on the city council from 1991 to 1999.

Tama Theis is another Republican who's running.

On the DFL side, Jerry McCarter, who ran for a Senate seat in November, said he's considering running for the vacant House seat.

Gottwalt announced his resignation last week, saying a new job he accepted will demand much of his time, and won't allow him to continue serving in the Legislature.
