Former Teen Idol Reveals Illness

St. Joseph, Minn. (KNSI) - Former teen idol and current St. Joseph resident Bobby Vee says he's suffering from the early stages of Alzheimer's Disease.

Vee said he was diagnosed a little more than a year ago, but chose to remain private about the illness and focus on his music and his family, adding he's used the past year to create memories for his grandchildren and celebrate life's goodness. Vee made the announcement Monday on his 69th birthday.

It's not the only major medical issue facing Vee's family, his wife of 48 years, Karen, is currently awaiting a lung transplant at the Duke University Medical Center in North Carolina.
