Floods strand campers in northern Minnesota state park

McGREGOR, MN (AP) - Seven campers were able to leave a northern Minnesota state park after getting briefly stranded by flood waters that washed out their only exit route.
 
The assistant manager of Savanna Portage State Park in McGregor says two groups of campers from the Twin Cities were able to leave Thursday afternoon, after a crew rebuilt the road.
 
Assistant park manager Sandy Wells says both groups were in good spirits during the brief stranding, that they had plenty of food and enjoyed their adventure.
 
Savanna Portage is a 16,000-acre state park about 70 miles west of Duluth. Wells says it will be closed to campers at least through the coming weekend and possibly longer as crews fix washed-out roads and clean up other damage.
