DULUTH, Minn. (KNSI) Six months have passed since flash floods in Duluth and surrounding cities caused heavy damage. So officials are preparing an update on the recovery and on looming deadlines for assistance.

Officials from city, state and federal agencies are gathering in Carlton today to talk about the progress made since June.

They plan to talk about an extension of a deadline for affected homeowners to apply for forgivable loans.

The flash floods that hit the Duluth area came after 10 inches of rain fell over two days. It washed out roads, overwhelmed storm drainage systems and killed 11 animals in the barnyard exhibit at the Duluth Zoo.

Public infrastructure damage measured in the tens of millions. Some 1,700 homes sustained damage and few homeowners had flood insurance.
