Flags to Fly at Half Staff to Mark 35W Bridge Collapse

ST. PAUL, MN (KNSI) - From sunrise to sunset today, U.S. and Minnesota flags will fly at half-staff at government buildings to mark the fifth anniversary of the Interstate 35W bridge collapse.

Governor Mark Dayton ordered the flags to be lowered in honor of the 13 people killed when the Mississippi River crossing collapsed during rush-hour traffic. The governor's proclamation mentions that 145 people were injured and thanks the rescue personnel who responded.

Federal investigators cited a design flaw as the cause of the collapse. A replacement bridge was quickly erected.
Most of the litigation connected to the tragedy has been settled.

A memorial to those affected is in a park near the collapse site in Minneapolis.
