ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - A first group of Red Bulls from the Minnesota National Guard is back stateside after a year in Kuwait.
About 100 soldiers from the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 34th Infantry Division are now at Camp Shelby in Mississippi. Guard spokeswoman Kristen Auge tells Minnesota Public Radio they will help receive a larger group that arrives in the next couple weeks.
More than 2,500 soldiers will spend about seven days at Camp Shelby before they return to Minnesota. Armories around the state are preparing for homecoming ceremonies over the next month.
The Red Bulls supported the drawdown of troops from Iraq in the largest deployment of the Minnesota National Guard since World War II.
