FREEPORT, Minn. (AP) — The century old Swany White flour mill in Freeport collapsed as crews from several central Minnesota fire departments worked to contain a fire that raged inside it.
Flames were visible in the windows on the first three flours of the mill near the main street of Freeport before the building collapsed Tuesday evening.
Swany White is central Minnesota's only flour mill. It specializes in commercial-grade and organic flour.
The Stearns County sheriff's office said the fire was first reported about 4:30 p.m. Crews responded from at least five area fire departments including Melrose, Albany, Avon and St. Martin.
The flames were visible for several miles along Interstate Highway 94.
The mill was built in 1897.
