(KNSI) – Several residents of a St. Cloud apartment complex were displaced Sunday morning after a kitchen fire.

The St. Cloud Fire Department says they were called to Empire Apartments about 10:20 for an automatic fire alarm. When they arrived, crews discovered a kitchen fire that had activated the building sprinkler system. Firefighters say the sprinklers controlled most of the fire, and some small flames still needed to be put out.

Fire damage was contained to the kitchen of the ninth floor unit, but extensive water damage goes from the ninth floor down to the first floor.

There were no reports of any injuries, and the displaced residents are getting help from the Red Cross and the HRA. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
