NEW MUNICH, Minn. (KNSI) Fire destroyed a Stearns County dairy barn and injured one firefighter Saturday night.

The fire was at a dairy barn near the New Munich exit on Interstate 94. There were flames coming out of the roof when fire departments arrived just before 7:30 pm.

There were 42 dairy cows in the barn at the time of the fire. They were all removed to safety.

Fire departments from Melrose and Freeport were on the scene for more than four hours. One firefighter was taken to the Melrose Hospital after being struck in the head by falling debris.

The farm site where the fire occurred is owned by Luverne Hinnenkamp of Melrose, but the barn was being rented by Kevin Bauer of Melrose.
