ST. PAUL, MN (AP) - The window for candidates to get on Minnesota's 2012 election ballot is closing fast.
A flurry of filing came a day ahead of Tuesday's deadline to formally register a candidacy with the secretary of state's office.
Two three-term congressmen, Democrat Tim Walz and Republican Michele Bachmann, were among those submitting their paperwork Monday for new terms. Democratic challengers Tarryl Clark in Minnesota's 8th congressional district and Mike Obermueller in the 2nd district also put their names in.
Last-minute filing was also happening in the race for 201 legislative seats and dozens of spots in the Minnesota judiciary.
Candidates who have second thoughts get a couple of days to withdraw their names. Some districts will require August primary elections to sort out who goes head-to-head in November.
