MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (KNSI) A grieving Minneapolis father says he thought he had adequately hidden the loaded handgun that killed his two-year-old son.

Kao Xiong placed the gun under a pillow next to the headboard in his upstairs bedroom. Xiong's 2- and 4-year-old sons were rolling around on the bed Wednesday when the older boy discovered the weapon and it discharged, striking the younger child.

Xiong says his ``heart is broken'' over his son's death. He says he purchased the gun for ``personal protection'' and left it loaded because he sometimes carried it with him. Now prosecutors must decide whether charges are warranted in the case.

Child protection workers temporarily removed three other children from the family's town house.
