ALEXANDRIA, MN (AP) - Duluth police Sgt. Brad Wick has picked up his third award for showing bravery during a shootout last year.

Wick was named the 2012 Police Officer of the Year by the Minnesota Police and Peace Officers Association. The award was presented at the group's annual meeting in Alexandria.

Last August, Wick fatally shot a man who had robbed a drug store, hijacked a car at gunpoint and then forced his way into a house where he shot the homeowner before being killed.

Wick is a 26-year veteran of the Duluth Police Department and supervises the K-9 unit.

The Duluth News Tribune (http://bit.ly/Mz1MxR) reports in May, Wick received his department's highest honor, the Medal of Valor. He also received the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association Officer of the Year award.
