Duluth council against ban on same-sex marriage

DULUTH, Minn. (AP) - The Duluth City Council is opposed to a state constitutional amendment to make same-sex marriage illegal in Minnesota.  

 

Duluth becomes the first city in Minnesota to take a stand on the issue which will be put before voters in a statewide referendum next November.

 

Several councilors earlier questioned why the City Council was taking up the matter because it wasn't relevant to city business. But, Councilor Jeff Anderson argued the issue "directly affects and impacts people in the city of Duluth.''  

 

The Duluth News Tribune reports the council voted 6-2 against the amendment that makes same-gender marriage illegal.
