Deputy admits spying on teenage girl

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. (AP) A former Itasca County sheriff's deputy has pleaded guilty to trying to videotape a 17-year-old girl in a bathroom.

Fourty five year-old Aaron Apitz of Deer River pleaded guilty Tuesday.

Apitz was charged with felony interference with privacy against a minor. The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension alleged Apitz used his work cellphone to try to videotape the girl entering and exiting the shower.

A criminal complaint says the girl found the phone and saw it was recording and reported the incident. The BCA said the phone's memory had been wiped clean when its investigators obtained the phone.

Apitz resigned the day before he was charged. He's scheduled to be sentenced May 17.
