ST. PAUL, Minn. (KNSI) More protections for bicyclists, a relocated roadside rest stop and a highway named to honor a police officer killed in the line of duty are among the proposals included in an omnibus transportation policy bill the Minnesota House Transportation Policy Committee approved late last week.
The bill sponsored by Representative Ron Erhardt of Edina packages elements of 14 bills previously heard by the committee into a broad piece of legislation.
The bill is scheduled to be heard Thursday by the House Transportation Finance Committee.
Included in the bill is a measure that would re-name an 11-mile stretch of State Highway 23 from Richmond to Cold Spring after the late Cold Spring police officer Tom Decker, who was shot and killed while responding to a call on November 29th.
A companion bill sponsored by Senator Scott Dibble of Minneapolis awaits action by the full Senate.
