ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Filmmakers producing narrative features or documentaries on Minnesota's history or cultural heritage have reached a grant application deadline.

The Minnesota Film and TV agency along with the Independent Filmmaker Project are awarding grants for qualified projects. The $175,000 in reimbursement goes to feature projects with a budget of at least $300,000 and documentaries that cost $200,000 or more to make.

Applications from grant seekers are due on Friday.

The program is part of the legacy and cultural heritage initiative that voters supported in 2008. A portion of the state sales tax goes to a special fund meant to promote arts and culture projects.

All of the grant money must be used for projects completed within the state. The movies have to be finished by May.
