MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (AP) There's a crowd of candidates lining up to run for mayor of Minneapolis.
Filing closes Tuesday for the open race to lead Minnesota's largest city. Incumbent Mayor R.T. Rybak is not seeking a fourth term, and by the time filing closes more than 20 candidates are expected to sign up.
The field includes council members Betsy Hodges and Don Samuels, former councilwoman Jackie Cherryhomes, Hennepin County Commissioner Mark Andrew, attorney Cam Winton and a number of lesser-known candidates.
Making the race more unpredictable is the still-new system of ranked choice voting now used by Minneapolis, which asks residents to make a first, second and third choice in the race. Those choices come into play if none of the candidates initially achieve more than 50 percent of the vote.
