ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - The next time there's a tornado warning in Stearns County, residents with a landline telephone might get an automated call alerting them of the pending severe weather.
The system, called City Watch Notification, includes a 15-second recorded message that can be issued in English, Spanish or Somali. Stearns County Emergency Management Director Marv Klug says it's another tool to alert residents of dangerous weather that's approaching.
When the automated message is received, the recipient is asked to press "1" on their phone to acknowledge they've taken the call. Residents get up to two additional calls if no response is received.
