ST. CLOUD, MN (KNSI) - A St. Cloud City Council member is suggesting a new program to breathe some life into single-family housing construction in the city.
The program, proposed by George Hontos, would reduce some of the fees associated with building a new home. Applicants could get a $1,500 reduction in fees per home. Hontos wants the program to begin immediately, and expire in October of next year.
With a limit of 35 applicants, Hontos says the program could help generate new property taxes by developing vacant lots around St. Cloud.
A public hearing on the proposal will be held at an upcoming meeting, and then the council will vote on the proposal.
